Apple iPhone smartphone was first introduced in 2007. But apparently, the precursor of touch screen handset has been initiated by Apple since the 1980s. Precisely, the iPhone prototype appeared in 1983. Of course the shape is very different from the modern generation iPhone. However, this device has a function to call and touch-enabled screen with a stylus.

Predictably, the technology embedded in these devices is still not as sophisticated right now. The touch screen itself is monochrome, black and white only. The prototype was designed by one of the influential designers of his day, Hartmut Esslinger. He also helped manufacture one of the early Apple computers, the Apple II.


As quoted from the Sydney Morning Herald, Monday (02/01/2012), the true prototype pictures have been circulating for a long time in cyberspace. But being a pretty hot topic after the Stanford University revealed some documents about the history of Apple.
